This room is the upper floor of the original one room log cabin and served as the family residence. The sitting room leads to the main bedroom and to a room furnished as a nursery. An important feature is the original false graining of the wainscot panels in the sitting room and the narrow nursery. In the sitting room the panels resemble a fine burl whereas the panels in the nursery appear to be a dark gray marble. Very few buildings retain this pre-Civil War original artwork.
